Mid Century, walnut veneer, kidney shaped, twin pedestal desk with tambour door on the left pedestal and 4 drawers on the right.

Designed by Kai Kristiansen for Feldballes Møbelfabrik.

Really unusual twin pedestal desk, reminiscent of the deco style.

A desk of two pedestals - business on the right, party on the left!

The right pedestal has square edges, with four drawers and a locking top drawer. The drawers have slightly incongruous brass handles.

The left pedestal is cylindrical, with a tambour door, revealing a cabinet with a revolving shelving unit for drinks and glasses. The shelves of this unit are painted white, edged in brass and have etched mirror divisions. On top of the cabinet is a revolving, segmented drawer, which pulls out (very handy for napkins, cocktail stirrers and snacks!)

The desk has been finished to show into the room, as such the front of the desk has shelves.

The whole piece is raised on turned, tapering legs, capped with brass
ferrule. The legs are removable.

Whilst this piece is in great condition, it is vintage, and as such may show some small signs of its age.

This desk is waiting to be restored in our workshop.

Designed by Kai Kristiansen, often referred to as the father of modern Danish furniture design.

Kai Kristiansen was born in Denmark in 1929. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and on finishing his apprenticeship as a furniture maker in 1948, became a cabinetmaker for Kaare Klint. Klint developed a progressive and humanistic approach to design and is often referred to as the father of modern Danish furniture design.

Emulating his mentor, Kristiansen opened his own design shop in 1955 and worked with various manufacturers to create beautifully crafted, innovative, human-centred furniture “defined by clean lines and a perfect balance of form and function.”

Manufactured by Feldballes Møbelfabrik.

Located in Aarhus, Denmark, S.B Feldballes Møbelfabrik’s origin as a company is unknown but they come to exemplify the classic modern Danish style from the mid twentieth century.
The renowned Danish designer Kai Kristiansen designed for Feldballes Møbelfabrik throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
