Oak Art Deco Twin Pedestal Partners Desk Black Leather Top.
Width: 154cm x Depth: 84cm x Height: 78cm
Width: 56cm x Height: 61.5cm
This very, very handsome Art Deco partner's (double-side) writing desk is undoubtedly amongst the most well-made pieces of furniture we've had for some years.
Substantial and heavy and mostly made from solid oak, aside from the sides which are veneered in oak in order to form the curved front edges.
The the top, plinth and drawer fronts are all solid oak, much of which is quartered to show the nicest elements of oak grain run through with medullary rays. The handles are moulded and formed out of oak too, and screwed on through the backs of the drawer fronts. The are 9 drawers on the main face of the desk and 3 on the other side, above 2 cupboard doors enclosing a shelved interior.
The carcass is incredibly well made with solid oak dovetailed rails meaning the chances of it coming apart are extremely remote - see photos below.
Although a twin pedestal desk, it's a fixed one which means that it doesn't come apart. It's possible to unscrew the top - the inch thick element with the leather insert if it helps for delivery. At a push, the plinth can be removed, but it's a fiddle and would involve an additional charge on delivery.
The leather writing insert has been replaced a few years ago with a black embossed lamb skiver, inset into a solid, quartered oak banding.
The finish is largely original and was always limed. We've cleaned and French polished it and relimed it in places.
The general condition is really nice, but you should bear in mind that it is around 80 years old and so there are a fair amount of marks, dents and blemishes and one or two areas around the leading, curved edges have small veneer patches let in.
Standard delivery is free anywhere on the UK mainland and upgraded, 2 man white-glove service is £25.
