Supporting a range of high-quality carbon avoidance projects, including renewable energy projects, clean cookstoves and clean water community initiatives, and projects protecting forests from being cut down.
Planting trees worldwide across a range of amazing projects that Ecologi supports, providing vital habitat for local biodiversity, and supporting the lives of local people.
Renewable energy projects include wind, solar, waste biomass, landfill gas capture, and small hydropower projects. Projects must have no negative impacts on local communities or biodiversity for Ecologi to consider supporting them, and must contribute to the UN's SDGs.
Supporting nature-based carbon avoidance projects include protecting trees previously designated for being cut down, and restoring and protecting carbon-rich peatlands. Natural carbon stores must be protected if we are to slow climate change, and these projects should also improve human lives.
Supporting community-based projects to avoid carbon emissions can go hand-in-hand with projects that improve people's lives directly within their homes. Such projects include replacing cookstoves with ones that are more fuel-efficient, and improving access to clean water, reducing the need to burn fuel in both cases
Planting trees in the UK, working with amazing UK-based tree planting organisations to restore the UK's woodlands. The trees will capture and store carbon over the course of their lifetimes' and help to provide vital habitat for UK wildlife. Ecologi are instrumental in our ability to measure our impact and provide our greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3.
As well as measuring our footprint it is important that we are public about what we do, this is why we publish annual reports on our findings and projects here for everyone to see.
Why plant trees?
Healthy trees sequester CO2, making them climate champions from the moment they’re planted. They also help to restore healthy ecosystems, sequestering and storing even more carbon in soils and plant biomass, as well as boosting biodiversity.
Reforestation projects provide co-benefits for local people which can promote employment, gender equality, new income streams, more diverse food sources to support a healthier diet, and improved community facilities.
Ecologi only supports responsible tree planting. This means supporting community-led projects where ecologically appropriate species are planted at the right place and time, and where trees are guarded from natural and man-made threats.
Importantly, while trees are a wonderful climate solution, the carbon absorbed by our trees is not taken into account as carbon avoidance.
Room for improvement
We are constantly learning and evolving because we understand that there is always room for improvement.
As a world, we're a long, long way from sustainable, but we have hope that through collective action, we can all work to build responsibility into a sustainable future for the planet.
We cannot stress how important the need for constant vigilance and improvement is and that's why behind the scenes we are always reviewing our processes and decisions, working on new methods and solutions as we grow.
Never overstating the progress we are making and never forgetting that we always have more work to do incorporating ESG into our day to day business life.
