Avigail Ochert

8–17 May –

Avigail Ochert is a North West London–based, self-taught artist whose work is rooted in a lifelong connection to the natural world. Working in a distinctive naive style, her paintings favour simplicity, inviting viewers to see familiar landscapes with fresh curiosity. Although Avi loved drawing from a young age, art was not encouraged in her upbringing; she returned to it as an adult, working as a gallery educator where she supported others in exploring their own creativity, before moving into nature education. Avi favours art materials with a reduced environmental impact, including gouache and water-based oils, often painting en plein air in urban green spaces such as Hampstead Heath and Waterlow Park. Influences include the Scottish artist Joan Eardley and early 20th century Canadian landscape artist Tom Thomson, whilst her own work reflects a sensitivity to place and a desire to reconnect people with nature.

Dream Transmission

Dream Transmission, North London–based artist Avigail Ochert’s first solo show, invites you to envelop yourself in landscapes both real and imagined, celebrating natural and urban green spaces. Working in a distinctive naive style, Ochert’s paintings balance immediacy with quiet reflection. The use of strong and sometimes muted colours evokes dreamlike worlds and fleeting idylls, where memory and observation intersect.

Often painting en plein air, Ochert captures scenes from Hampstead Heath, Sussex, Waterlow Park, Weymouth Harbour and the Iberian Peninsula, grounding her work in lived experience while allowing space for interpretation and imagination. These small-scale works draw viewers into an intimate encounter, encouraging a slower, more personal way of seeing.

Through a sensitive and expressive approach, Dream Transmission becomes an invitation to pause and reconnect with the landscapes that shape both our inner and outer worlds.
