ChunkiChilli are a British company that work closely with a knitting community in a rural part of Southwest China to produce handmade knitted toys and children’s garments.
The ChunkiChilli story begins with its founders Misty and Tim marrying in the Himalayan foothills, and noticing how the local community was changing, pushing a dilemma onto the people there. In this remote part of Sichuan, old state factories were closing down, leaving many with no option but to travel to big cities in search of work, which almost inevitably meant leaving their children behind. Misty and Tim launched ChunkiChilli, over fifteen years ago, as a craft and knitting business that could help families stay together, and through the years has supported a knitting community of mostly mothers, working in their hometown, whilst their children are at school.
