Djeco

A Parisian family business making toys since the 1950s –

Where imagination meets innovation.

Djeco are a French toy company, making high quality toys and games for children from birth. Djeco’s products range from mobiles and musical jewellery boxes, to educational games and craft kits, all beautifully designed and packaged.

A family business, Djeco was founded in 1954, in the heart of Paris, by Véronique Michel-Dalès. Originally named “Les Jeux de Djeco" (Djeco Games), after the gecko, a little lizard from South-East Asia, believed to bring good luck. Beginning with a collection of colourful dominoes for learning letters and numbers, Véronique Michel-Dalès designed toys throughout the 1960s, earning four Oscars du Jouet awards (the French “Oscar of Toys”) as she did so. In 1989, after a prolonged dormant period, Véronique’s son, Fréderic revived Djeco, initially through importing the toys from across the globe, before resuming production on their own creations in 1993.

Today, Deco’s workshop is still run by the Seine, and their aim remains the same: to promote a sense of freedom in play, and give free reign to the imagination of children.

Ethics in production:

Djeco believe that a product’s degree of quality is a direct result of the suppliers they choose to work with. As well as having to have technical expertise, Djeco’s partners are rigorously audited for their commitment to quality and safety as well as social and environmental issues.

Sustainability:

Eco-friendly design.

Products are designed to last. Dense cardboard is used for stacking blocks and jigsaw puzzles, top-quality plywood give their wooden toys strength, special reinforcement paper is used for playing cards and Crazy Motors cars use metal that can withstand any toy car pileup.
