Skovby

A Danish Family Business Since 1933

Skovby –

A front-runner of functional, well designed furniture from the mid-twentieth century; still producing furniture, with a focus on sustainability.

Skovby

Skovby was founded in 1933, in Denmark, by cabinetmaker Thorvald Rasmussen. A family business, it has been subsequently owned and run by his son Villy Rasmussen and grandsons Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen. From its inception as a one man workshop the company grew quickly, and in less than 20 years they were producing dining room sets and other pieces on a production line.

Like other Danish furniture makers and designers of the mid twentieth century, Skovby’s focus has always been on the balance of form and function, craftsmanship, and use of natural and quality materials. They were among the frontrunners within functional extension systems for tables, and their name is still synonymous with designs that pair high functionality with great design.

Skovby is now run by Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen, with a commitment to a sustainable business model for both their employees and the environment.
