Beautifully made solid oak chair, in an elegantly simple design, perfect for use as a desk, or occasional chair. Designed by Erik Kirkegaard and manufactured by Høng Stolefabrik, 1950s, Denmark.
The chair frame has been made from solid oak, and features shaped a-frame sides and a swept, concave, rear seat rail. The chair has sculpted arm rests, shaped from solid teak, and a curved back rest for maximum comfort and style. The chair’s back joins to its sides by a visible tenon joint, made of solid beech.
Medullary rays are visible on the frame, which is an indication that this chair is made from quartered oak, a sign of material quality. Quartering oak produces a more uniform grain pattern than plain saw oak, and gives the resulting timber additional stability and resistance to warping and cupping. It is a more time consuming process, and as such, means means that quartered oak is more expensive than plain saw.
The chair has been reupholstered in leather, sympathetic to the chairs original design.
