Description
A pair of slim, handcrafted benches, made in France, probably 1920s.
The bench tops and legs are made of solid oak, with the a-frame legs running straight through the bench top, making the end grain visible in a pleasing decorative flourish. The bench tops are finished with rounded edges are sturdily constructed; the top of the legs form a tenon at their top, slotting through the mortice cut into the seat.
These benches have a beautifully worn patina, and would have traditionally been used in rustic farmhouses, schools or communal dining settings. They’re a perfect complement to a range of design schemes including: rustic, cottage, mid-century and industrial interiors, and would happily sit alongside a dining table, hallway or balcony.
